Dr. Baylus is an attending optometrist at New England College of Optometyr (NECO) Center for Eye Care Commonwealth and Assistant Professor at New England College of Optometry.

In 1989, after completing her Fellowship in Primary Eye Care and Education at The New England College of Optometry, Dr. Baylus joined the faculty and became director of Home Eye Care Services. In this capacity, she developed the college’s basic eye screening service into a comprehensive eye-care program, and worked directly with local homeless shelters, like Rosie’s Place and Women’s Lunch Place, to provide free eye-care and eye-wear to disenfranchised populations of Boston.

In addition to furthering the Home Eye Care Program, Dr. Baylus started the college’s Problem-Based Learning Seminar (now an established Clinical Reasoning course), designed to teach critical thinking and medical problem solving.
Dr. Baylus left the school for Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston in 1997. At OCB, she worked in practice with renowned cataract and glaucoma specialist, Dr. Bradford Shingleton, treating pre and post-operative patients in Boston and Cape Cod offices.

In 2004, Dr. Baylus joined Lexington Eye Associates as Contact Lens Specialist. While at Lexington Eye, Dr. Baylus worked with NECO’s Contact Lens Residency Program as an adjunct professor, supervising residents in difficult contact lens fits.

Dr. Baylus rejoined the faculty at NECO in 2008 as Director of Contact Lens Services, where she continues to fit difficult contact lens patients, specializing in hard and soft, bifocal, keratoconus, post-surgical and pediatric aphakic lenses.  She stepped down from this position in 2014 to spend more time with her family but is still providing patient care two days a week and co-teaches pre-clinical lab section one afternoon a week.

Dr. Baylus lives in Brookline with her husband David, where, now that her triplets have graduated and moved out, she enjoys traveling, knitting, and outdoor door activities with family and friends.
