Research Participation Opportunities

MiSight 1 Day Post-Approval Study for Effectiveness and Visual Symptoms

Fuensanta A. Vera-Diaz, OD, PhD, FAAO
Principal Investigator

Children’s Vision Lab
424 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Participants should be 8-12 years old with myopia. Their prescription must be between -0.75 to -4.00 with no astigmatism greater than -0.75. There can be no history of myopia control in the past or corneal scars.

This is an FDA-regulated clinical trial that studies the effect of specially design contact lenses in slowing the progression of myopia. These contact lenses have been FDA-approved and now we are doing post market research on the lenses.

Participants will receive an eye exam, where our investigators will check their visual acuity, health of their eye, and evaluate the fit of the contact lenses. They will be dilated at visits, depending on which visit it is. Kids will be asked to fill out a questionnaire about their vision and the quality of their vision. We will measure axial length.

There are 11 scheduled visits over the course of 4 years. The visits will range from 1.5 to 2.5 hours.

Participant will receive a free supply of contact lenses for the duration of the study, eye exams every 6 months, and a check will be mailed to them ranging from $50-$100 depending on the visit.

Non-Invasive Retinal Imaging in Stroke Survivors

Elena Z. Biffi, OD, MSc, FAAO
Principal Investigator

NECO Center for Eye Care, Commonwealth
930 Commonwealth Ave, Boston, MA 02215

Inclusion
patients >18yo with history of stroke;

Exclusion
• Diagnosis of multiple sclerosis or other demyelinating disease (with or without optic neuritis)
• ALS or other degenerative motor neuron disorder diagnoses
• Best-corrected VA <20/40 • Spherical refractive error > +/- 6.00 D
• Refractive error > 2.50 D of astigmatism
• Intra-Ocular Pressure > 21 mmHg
• Presence of RAPD in either eye
• Glaucoma or other Optic Neuropathies
• Retinal Venous Disease
• AREDS Grade 3 AMD
• Congenital/acquired macular diseases

There is a strong connection between neuronal and vascular networks of the eye and the brain. This study will enroll participants with a diagnosis of stroke to participate in retinal imaging to study health of neurons and vessels in the eye.

Study participants will undergo dilated non-invasive retinal imaging, such as fundus photography, to investigate the health of retinal neuronal and vascular networks.

Visit(s): 1
Length: 1-1.5 hrs

The participant will be compensated $50.
